The building was built on the project of the architect Gaetano Koch for the Prince of Piombino, Rodolfo Boncompagni Ludovisi, between 1886 and 1890, incorporating on the back the seventeenth-century Palazzo Orsini, also called "Palazzo Grande", which, together with the Casino Dell'aurora, It remains the last testimony of the beautiful, but unfortunately disappeared, Villa Ludovisi. The triple arched portal is flanked by columns supporting a balcony; On the ground floor there are 12 architraved windows, on the first floor 15 windows with curved gable and decorations, per second with triangular gable. Under the elegant cornice with shelves runs a frieze composed of three diagonal bands and dragons, heraldic symbols of the Boncompagni. The first floor was representative and included the reception room and the salons; The second floor was used as a dwelling. The two floors are connected by a two-ramps staircase that occupies almost a third of the old "Grand Palace": Today the building is home to the Embassy of the United States of America.

Frente a tantos mundanos se levanta el austero Palazzo Margherita, llamado así por la larga residencia de la reina Margarita de Savoia después de la tragedia de Monza. El edificio fue construido sobre el proyecto del arquitecto Gaetano Koch para el príncipe de Piombino, Rodolfo Boncompagni Ludovisi, entre 1886 y 1890, incorporando en la espalda el Palacio Orsini del siglo XVII, también llamado "Palazzo grande", que, junto con el Casino Dell'aurora, sigue siendo el último testimonio de la bella, pero desgraciadamente desaparecido, Villa Ludovisi.
